17 Apr 2007 BDU Membership FAQ's

·  What does BDU stand For?

BDU stands for Beer Drinkers United . Originally a brainchild after a few brews by Joel Chappell (AKA (BDU)MrJoelieC and Brian Smith (AKA (BDU)ibrewalot). With some Help, Ok maybe a lot of Help, from Warbak, ghostwalker, HOSSinNH, and SnakeEyes.

·  Were there any better ideas than to name it BDU?

Oh man there sure were... But Hair Navel Lint and the Scottish Heavy Artillery just didn't seem to click.

·  Is BDU a Clan?

Well, Yes and no. To most of us BDU is a Philosophy:

BDU is for people.... We do not like bots, and other inhuman creatures however we sometimes use them for practice. We also like to know whom we are dealing with, so we tend to spend some time chatting with all our peeps either at other LAN Parties or even at our own or in our or even other Forums. We know the difference between good players and players with good computers and good connections, and we react accordingly...

BDU is not too serious. We're serious enough, but we don't use Games as a substitute for living. That's why BDU players generally don't swear, don't frag laggers (too much) to increase their rank, and are generally nice folks (unless using an alias) Or if we run out of beer...

BDU is a philosophy of practice. BDU has no rules, except for those mentioned here. This allows us to practice what we preach - fun. You don't even have to be any good to join in - we will educate you without being mean about it. We don't really care too much about winning, but we don't mind it either. However, we despise whining and also people who forget their wallets so we have to buy them beer.

BDU is about caring. ... and not caring. Don't worry - in a TDM or CTF, a fellow BDUer will be there to save your skin (unless they time out, of course), and in an FFA, they'll help you get fragged! Also if you need a beer a BDUer will get you one if they are getting one for themselves.. Now that's teamwork!

BDU is not about rules. The universe has enough laws. The Law of Motion, The Law of Gravity, Murphy’s Law to name a few. BDUers trust in the nature of things and do what comes naturally to them. Written rules are a poor substitute for individual judgment and solid personal ethics. We expect good behavior to come from the heart and soul of our community. But since that’s too much to ask from most people Joel had to develop this page anyway.
